Bundles of Joy from California

Angela and Brielle came from CA to visit Colorado and all their friends here. It was great to have them stay with us for a couple of days.

Boomer loves, loves, loves this little girl! He was constantly following her around and trying to cuddle with her.

We couldn't turn our back for one second as he was always trying to steal kisses from her!

What do you think?  Do we look like naturals when it comes to parenting?

Or just a couple of kids playing around?

Arrgggg!

It's time for one of my favorite holidays...HALLOWEEN! I love, love, love to dress up.  (just ask my poor YWs leaders...I always had great outfits for girls camp)  That means when it comes to my halloween costume I pull out all the stops.  We had our ward Halloween party/Chili cookoff last night. I'm spoiling the surprise of our costumes by posting this a week early, but the pictures were too great to keep to myself.

I wish I had a picture to show all the detail of  the costumes...the dangly earrings, the fake eyelashes, and Tyler's pirate ring that he made the kiddos kiss.  Tyler looked fantastic complete with eyeliner and brown eyeshadow all over his face to make him look dirty.

This picture doesn't even do him justice, but it's the best we could get. Unfortunately I was so busy running the kids Halloween booth that I didn't get any pictures of the other great costumes or any of my young women girls.  We had to leave before the awards were given out but we won best costume and were awarded a golden ladle.

We had long been anticipating the Robinson family costumes (literally 2 months at least).  Boy was it worth the wait!  They looked great.  A disco family, complete with tie-dye socks and all.  Too cute!

Paige striking a pose! Dancing queen!

Mission call

My brother got his mission call to Tucson, AZ -Spanish speaking a couple of weeks ago. We are all very excited for him.  I can't believe my little John-boy who I babysat for so many years  is all grown up. We were able to go with him when he went to the temple for the first time. It was great to be there with my family as the youngest of the siblings went through the temple.

I can hardly believe this boy will be living on his own for 2 years serving a mission!

Of course we had to snap a quick pic in front of the fountain. Can't believe we were married here more than 3 years ago! i love my honey!!

Cake pops

I was in charge of activity a couple weeks ago and the value for the month was knowledge. I wanted to teach them something fun to make. Halloween cake pops is what we ended up making. I got the idea from Bakerella.com

These were my examples...I wish the pic had turned out better but it's a mummy, spider, pumpkin, cat, and ghost. The girls did a great job and were very creative.

Just be sure you don't make your cake pops too big otherwise they might end up like this...

Best Buds

We are watching Colt and Ashley's dog Louie this weekend.  We are learning lots of things about Louie in the little time we have had him:

-Boomer and Louie are already best buds

-Louie has just as much energy as Boomer. They have bee running around the house literally all day.

-Louie loves to snuggle. We connected their kennels so they could go back and forth between them, but Louie just wanted to lay next to Boomer.

-Louie's legs are much shorter than Boomer's. This is quite hilarious when Boomer books it up the stairs and Louie is only 4 steps up. Or when Boomer gets up on our bed and Louie tries to get up and join him but just ends up running straight into the bed.

Boomer is going to miss Louie when he has to go home tomorrow!

B.E.A.R.S.

With the week off you may be wondering how I have been spending my time...cleaning the house, finishing applications, studying for boards. Well all of those would be productive things, but certainly not fun. I have been baking like crazy. For example, I only get to teach every 3-4 months in young women and it was my turn this last Sunday. I decided to make a really cute treat and it only took me all day (really, all day, but so worth it). The lesson was on scripture study so i turned to Sugardoodle.com to get the creative juices flowing. I found this really cute handout:

Then I decided to make bear cupcakes. I got the idea online and made some modifications of my own. What do you think?

I started freaking out when I couldn't figure out how to package them.  Everytime I used Saran Wrap, the faces got smudged.  After racking my brain for an hour, I tried putting them in on cardboard and then in a gallon size bag and cutting off the top.  It worked and I was elated!

The final product.

I think the girls really enjoyed them, but next time I think I'll try something a little less time consuming.

While I was preparing the lesson, I could see Boomer doing something fishy out of the corner of my eye.  I looked over and this is what I saw:

I guess he thought there was a treat dropped in the couch or something.  i don't know how he managed to fit his entire head and one arm in there.  It was hilarious!

YW Olympics

Last week the Miamaids (which in translation means me) were in charge of the combined YW activity. The Miamaid presidency gave me this input- "We want a fun outdoor activity." What better to do in the summertime than  YW Summer Olympic Games!

EVENTS

Event 1: Swimming
Each girl had a tissue paper fish she had to fan across the finish line using only a paper plate.

Event 2: "Holy" Gymnastics
A blindfolded girl fed a powdered donut via string to her teammate laying on the ground below

EVENT 3:Javalin throw
The girls attempted to throw their straw the furthest

EVENT 4: "Poppin" Relay
Teams of 2 or 3. Girls had to fill a cup attached to their shoe/foot via rubberband with popcorn, run across the field, empty their cup in a bucket, and crab walk back to tag their teammate who would then proceed to do the same thing.

EVENT 5: Archery
How many marshmallows can the girls shoot through the hoop with the marshmallow gun?

Even the leaders joined in.

EVENT 6: Shot Put
Teams of 2 toss a water balloon between each other, taking a step back with each toss.

Just 3 teams left:
Amber trying to soak me with an extra water balloon, too bad it bounced right off me!

This was my reaction when Alyssa was successful at soaking my backside!

THE PRIZE: Gold medals for all the girls
My first piping and glazing experience with sugar cookies-I thought they turned out well!
