Junior Detective

That's what we are calling Tyler these days. Our excitement for the week (other than me trying to pass yet another set of written boards for licensing) was Tyler helped catch a felon!! Tyler works at the Fitness Center on campus. For the last several weeks someone has been using bolt cutters to break locks and steal valuables including lap tops and other stuff out of the lockers. They had a picture of the suspect posted. Tyler saw a guy that had the same jacket in the picture walking around the locker room acting funny. Tyler called the campus police. They arrested the guy and he confessed to everything! Tyler had to go over to the station and give a statement and identify the guy. Now the people of Metropolitan State College of Denver Recreation Center can rest easy thanks to Ty! Way to go babe!

The Little Red Hen

I taught the combined lesson for YW this month. The topic was...brace yourself...HOMEMAKING. Okay please stop laughing. Really-you can stop now. I know it it's pretty funny. Well that was my reaction as well. I giggled as I read the lesson manual-"Make your classroom as attractive as possible for this lesson. Cover the table with a cloth and place a centerpiece on it." Thank goodness Christiann (the YW president) let me combine it with another lesson-Sharing the Work at Home. It actually turned out to be a fun lesson and of course I had to come up with a cute treat to go along with it. I told the story of THe Little Red Hen who couldn't get anyone on the farm to help her do the work. Then as the treat I made farm animal sugar cookies. They turned out cute but unfortunately I didnt get a chance to take a picture of them before church so these are the leftovers from the bottom of the basket that are a little squished-still cute though!

There was also a bunny, but I didn't have any of them left to take a picture of. :( On a side note this was the first time I've made fondant (marshmellow fontant to be exact). The pink turned out perfect but the yellow and orange were a little dry. Guess I'lll have to do a little more baking to practice!

Happy Valentine's Day....to ME!

I have the best husband in the entire world. And here's why...

Yesterday I got home early from school.  I walked in the door and heard what sounded like someone rubbing against the front door.  I opened the door and no one was there, but I could hear footsteps in the gravel around the side of our complex.  I ran over to check it out, but no one was there.  However, I did see Tyler sitting in the car by the mailboxes. I waved and went back inside.  When Tyler drove into the garage he said he was getting the mail but realized he forgot the key.  While talking to Tyler I saw a box in the car that Tyler refused to acknowledge was there.

I found out later that night that this is what had actually happened...

Tyler had ordered something for me for Valentine's Day and he saw online that it was delivered that day.  He did not know I was going to be home early but was just pulling up as I was shutting the garage door.  He parked the car and ran to the front door to get the box because he knew I would be taking Boomer out and then ran as fast as he could around the corner and into the car.    And how do I know all this before Valentine's Day?  Well I saw the box, but also poor Tyler pulled his hip flexor sprinting and is a hurtin' unit!

Tyler says "At that moment in time I was the fastest person in the world."  I told him he needs to start running with me so he doesn't pull things :)

So in desperation last night, Tyler gave me my presentS early.  For those of you who don't know I have a  huge shoe fetish.  I LOVE them!!! So what did Tyler get me?  Feast your eyes....

Yes, that's right 7 pairs of shoes! The store was having their winter clearance sale and tyler knew I had been dying for a pair of gladiator shoes for awhile so he bought them and some others as well.

Stay tuned for what I'm doing for him for Valentine's day......

In case you hadn't heard...

Just in case you haven't heard...

  • Laura will officially be a doctor in 117 days
  • Tyler will graduate in 112 days
  • Laura got in to Salt Lake City's VA residency program (her #1 choice!)
  • We'll be moving to UT the first week of June.
This year is going to hold a lot of changes for us.  We're excited for change but sad to be leaving our home and all the friends we have made here!

Colorado Christmas

I know it's been a month since Christmas but I feel like I am just barely getting back into the swing of things so you will have to pardon my tardiness in posting this. We had one day between Mexico and leaving for Oklahoma. We spent the day in Fort Collins for by little brother's mission farewell.  He did a great job on his talk and is going to be a GREAT missionary!

Because it was our year to spend Christmas in Oklahoma with Tyler's parents we took the opportunity to do a quick Christmas with my family. Nobody ever complains about having 2 Christmases!

A new shirt and tie for Tyler...

A new cookbook for Laura... (which Tyler looks like he is going to enjoy!)

A Snuggie for Laura....well not really, it was just in a Snuggie box. But I acted so excited when I saw the box that my mom felt bad and gave me the actual zebra print Snuggie...don't hate on me cause I know you're all jealous!

Last picture with John before the leaving for the MTC :(
